Since becoming a member in week two of Season One, this season --Season 3-- was by far my favorite of all 3 seasons. Why? For the first time the league, to me, became much more than just playing 2 official games a week.
We had great participation, thanks mostly to the friendly enthusiasm of the newest members.
There was one big difference between this season and the first two. Prior to this season the chat room was used mainly to meet before a scheduled match. But this season, for many new members it was much more than that. The DGA this season evolved into a real community of competitors and friends meeting in the chat room to seek out real, honest and fair competition. --and sometimes just to hang out and get to know each other after rounds. There were a couple of vets from other seasons who occasionally came looking for a challenge, but no doubt, it was the new members who took the chat room by storm. For the 1st time ever the chat room really came alive.
Legin, BuckRgrs, Mama1018, Olivier117 and others started strong and contributed to the camaraderie of the league. Thank you for contributing to making Season 3, for me, the best ever.
I want to give a special shout out to those members who joined late in the season and finished the tourneys, as well as those new members who were there to make that possible. For the first time ever, from a membership perspective, this season ended with a bang and an increase in active competitive membership rather than just petering out.
Many people that joined this year would look first to the chat room to set up a lot of matches between each other. And unlike other seasons, there would often be other members there looking for the same thing. This included players just learning the game, and also, some of the best players in the world.
Due to his commitment to and presence in the chat room, I think many of us would agree that our friend Putterrr was the ambassador of the DGA, greeting many newcomers in his friendly way. People were made to feel welcome, and competitive matches could always be set up. Putterrr was a mainstay in the chat room. Whether looking for someone to shoot a round with, offering practice tips to members seeking them, or just shooting the breeze, if you popped into the chat room, more often than not, you'd run into Putterrr. To those who had the pleasure of competing with him, you did not need to see an EA ranking number to recognize that our friend in the kilt was as outstanding a player as they come.
The same with Snap. SnapJack would frequently pop in to check on things and often look for a match. It was inspiring to see players like Snap and Putterrr take on any and all comers, including each other, without fear of what a loss would do to their position on the EA Leader board.
Neal, representing Scotland, joined in and was frequently in the chat room looking for a challenging round. He is one heck of a formidable opponent on the links, perhaps due to his experience gained living nearby the "Wolf Creek" of the UK. Looking for a true challenge? Neal is ready and waiting.
Tazz joined with a couple of weeks to go until the end of the tour. His enthusiasm is contagious. He finished his 20 rounds in less than 2 weeks, then was there to assist many others in getting their rounds in before the deadline.
Capin, Skyhawk, TheStick, Dude and others came in and enthusiastically shot their rounds with members here. Look out for them all next season. Oh, and by the way, Dude joined March 13, TheStick on March 20th. They completed all 20 rounds
And a special hats off to TheJokker who joined our league despite being openly misunderstood (to put it mildly) in our very own forum. Rather than being offended, he joined us to seek out real competitors and, perhaps, friends. Rather than squatting on his #3 EA ranking, he took on the challenge. Without having any time to practice, with 4 days remaining in the season, and with the help of predominantly new members, he finished the 20 official rounds on all ten courses. And like all the other new members, whether he won, or he lost --and there were losses-- he never made excuses, always had a kind word for his opponents and was looking forward to the next match.
To all the new members who joined us in Season3, I raise a toast to all of you. In my eyes, through your extraordinary enthusiasm, sportsmanship, and participation, you all truly represent the very best of what this league is all about.
