In the java chatroom here, there is only a sound made when someone exits the room, not when they enter it. So to let everyone know you're there, especially those who might be playing or have it open in their background only, there is a neat little trick. If you enter someone's name exactly as it appears on the right side of the chatroom, they will hear a beep and their name in your text will show red so they can easily see who beeped them. For example if I'm there as fredsc and you enter "Hey fredsc", I'll hear a beep and see...
Hey fredsc
That being said, it's ALWAYS a good idea to have your sound on when you're in the chatroom so u can hear this.
Also to make a more visible notice you can right click on someone, and select Instant Message to open a private chat window, which is something they can easily see from say across the room at their wii. Please make use of these features when you enter a chatroom and ppl don't answer you right away, because their probably playing or afk doing something else while waiting for someone to show up.
